Its autumnal in weather and most people’s heating is on. Yes its the season of shedding leaves and two of the rapper calendar’s events are taking place, with an additional from those Ravens of fair London town.
London’s own male English short sword dance team, Thrales, celebrate their 21st birthday with a special “Day of Dance” in London on Sunday 8th November. It’s folk dance in a pub with swords!
Expect spins, somersaults and sword play – beer drinking encouraged.
They’ll be heading home to Southwark, where you can join them for the usual mayhem at the Horseshoe Inn on Melior Street. Nearest Tube: London Bridge (Jubilee Line, Northern Line). there’ll be beer and birthday cake. There will be sword dancing performances from the boys and their special guests for 2015, Four Corner Sword, along with clog dance and who knows what else – more details later. If your team would like to perform just drop them a line! Dancing takes place from 12:30 until 4pm.
Meanwhile, up the M40 in Oxford, Mabel Gubbins will be hosting their annual friendly day of dance around some of the best boozers they know, and frequent regularly. It will be Sunday 6th December, in Oxford town centre, as usual. They haven’t confirmed the start pub yet, so probably best if you contact Mabel direct to say that you’re coming. That way Mabel will, hopefully, know who is coming. People can contact them via Facebook or just email Angi Mabel for a friendly and prompt response.
And finally, Tower Ravens are hosting an open workshop session on Monday 9th November at 7:30pm at St Michael’s Church Hall, Cornhill, EC3V 9DS. You need to go round the back near the Jamaica Wine House.
You can see them in action HERE.
