Longsword Competition update, rapper teams needed for a crawl. There’s a Beer Festival too, any other excuses?

September 12, 2014 by tommy

Jeff’s been busy, organising the 2014 Longsword Competition being held in Richmond on Saturday 11th October. Sallyport Sword are the hosts of what looks to be a cracking event with dancing being held in the Town Hall, at the Richmond Ale Festival and outside in the fresh North Yorkshire air.

Signed up so far are, Monkseaton Morris, Goathland Plough Stots, Redcar, Claro Sword, Sallyport, Hawksword and the Coventry Mummers. Currently Carlisle, Grenoside and Maltby are possibles – please get in touch with Jeff to confirm your attendance.

Those Stone-type Monkeys, Handsworth Sword, Kingsmen and Sullivan’s Sword are currently being chased, so again please confirm with Jeff.

The Longsword Competition categories are as follows;

• Traditional dance
• Own dance
• Junior
• Youth
• Audience award
• Music

Sadly, no rapper teams have yet signed up to crawl the fine pubs of Richmond, I guess Sallyport could be persuaded to come out? It would be good if other teams could join them though.

Renowned for healthy debate, responsible politics and moderate beer consumption, the Sword Dance Union will hold it’s AGM after the Competition.

    I’m sure Hawksword will have our rappers with us.
